Wrongful Death Suit Filed After Police Kills Teen

The father of a teenage girl who was killed by a police officer in Warren, Ohio has filed a wrongful death suit. William Dale Thompson is filing the suit against Cortland police officer Jason Smith after Smith hit 16-year-old Cassandra Thompson with his car as she was crossing the street. Thompson is seeking $25,000 in damages for wrongful death and over $25,000 for the pain and suffering caused to Cassandra before her death. Thompson says, "I am hoping this lawsuit brings out answers as to why Jason (Smith) wasn’t charged and why he wasn’t tested for drugs and alcohol the way a regular citizen would have been after a crash. There’s a lot of whys I want answers to, and I believe this is the only way to get to the bottom of this tragedy.’’ According to a coroner’s report, Cassandra Thompson had a mixture of methadone, oxycodone and valium in her system at the time of the crash. There is still an ongoing investigation into the accident.
