Woman Sues Ortho-McNeil for Daughter's Death

The mother of a woman who died after using the Ortho-Evra birth control patch is filing a wrongful death suit against pharmaceutical house Ortho-McNeil for wrongful death. Celena Devault, 26, died from blood clots and a pulmonary embolism in June (03) after having started to use the Ortho-Evra patch two months earlier (APR03). The suit holds Ortho-McNeil responsible for Devault's death, and accuses Ortho-McNeil of deliberately withholding information about the dangerous side effects of the drug, which includes blood clots, stroke, pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis. The suit was filed in San Francisco Superior Court.
