Teen in Coma After Hit-and-Run

A 19-year-old girl was hospitalized with a serious brain injury and several broken bones after being hit by a car on Sunday in San Diego, California (12NOV06). Whitney Young was crossing an intersection at Montezuma Road and College Avenue with four friends when the accident happened. The group heard a car accelerating and rushed across the street, but Young did not make it across safely. Her family have put up $9,000 out of a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the hit-and-run driver, who police believe was driving a burgundy Mitsubishi Eclipse with possible gray markings and an aftermarket flaring kit that gives the vehicle a racing appearance. Whitney's father Steve Young says, "There may have been other people in the car that we would ask to have the courage to come forward and do what's right. We would ask the driver to have the courage to come forward and accept responsibility for what he or she has done. Montezuma's a busy street -- there might be other people out there with bits of information that can help the police catch this person."
