Teen Dies in Car Crash

An investigation is being held after a car crash that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old girl. Kimberly Barcenas was one of five teenagers in the car driven by a 17-year-old friend who later admitted to police officers that she had smoked marijuana "earlier in the day." The driver, who suffered major head trauma from the accident, ran a red light and was hit by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Todd Mertenes, 31. The Ford driven by the 17-year-old sustained extensive damage. Passengers in the car besides the driver and Barcenas also suffered injuries - Chelsea Gordon, 18, suffered serious head injuries, and Courtney Murphycheng, 18, plus another 17-year-old were hurt. The 17-year-old driver could face possible vehicular manslaughter charges once toxicology results are complete.
