Strictest Warning for Diabetes Drug

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has asked Avandia, which is made by GlaxoSmithKline, and Actos to carry a “black box” warning. Avandia is a controversial type 2 diabetes drug that can potentially heighten the risk of heart attack in patients. The request for a 'black box' warning was made May 23, two days after publication of a study that found Avandia increased the risk of heart attack by as much as 43 percent.
