Preventing Dog Bites

There is no doubt that education plays a key part in the prevention of dog bites. The problem of animal aggression is not a small one. In the United States, dogs bite more than 4.7 million people per year, 800,000 of those seek medical attention and approximately 12 people per year die as a result of dog attacks. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the United States Postal Service, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are each diligently working to educate Americans about dog bite prevention. Often people knowingly or unknowingly contribute to the problem of animal aggression. Dog bites are largely preventable, and with a little education adults and children can learn to reduce their chances of being bitten.
