Police Face Wrongful Death Suit

A wrongful death and negligence lawsuit is being filed against the City of Chicago after a man was killed when a Chicago police car allegedly hit his scooter (27SEP06). According to the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, Eric Cage died after the officer, who was on a routine patrol, crashed into him while driving fast through an intersection. The suit alleges that the officer did not stop or slow down before going through the intersection, and that the collision was a direct result of his negligent driving. The suit also says that officer's car did not have its oscillating, rotating or flashing lights and sirens activated. The administrator of Cage's estate, Sherlie Butler, is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
