Officers Sue Burger King for Marijuana Contamination

Two police officers in Albuquerque, New Mexico are suing fast-food chain Burger King after they were allegedly served food that had marijuana sprinkled on it (08OCT06). The lawsuit accuses Burger King of personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices, and is seeking both legal costs and unspecified damages. Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon from the Isleta Pueblo tribal police bought meals at the Burger King drive-through. They ate half of their food before discovering there was marijuana in the burger. As a result, three Burger King employees were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana as well as the felony of aggravated battery on an officer. All three were later indicted. The officer's attorney Sam Bregman says, “It gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Whopper'. The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous.”
