Negligence Suit Filed After Pedestrian Injury

The parents of a girl left brain dead after being hit by a car are filing a negligence lawsuit against the town of Millbrae, California, the county and the California Department of Transportation. Emily Liou was 17 years old when she was hit by a car at the intersection of Ludeman Lane and El Camino in March (06). The family’s attorney, Douglas Saeltzer says she has been in a "vegetative" state ever since the accident. Saeltzer believes Millbrae officials, Caltrans — which owns that section of El Camino Real — and the county were well aware of the dangers pedestrians faced when crossing in the area. He insists all three departments were "negligent and careless in the design, construction, maintenance, inspection, repair and control of state Route 82 (El Camino Real) at this intersection.”
