Miami Doctor Pays $9 Million in Wrongful Death

A Miami doctor has been ordered to pay out $9 million in damages for the death of a patient. Dr. Carmel Barrau is being held responsible by a Miami-Dade Circuit Court jury for the death of Jessie Sturdivant, who died after being admitted to Parkway Regional neglect for an aneurysm. Barrau stopped acting as coordinator for Sturdivant's care after having a disagreement with another physician and failed to check on Sturdivant, who fell into a coma and died as a result. The judgment was won on Thursday (07DEC06) on behalf of Sturdivant's surviving wife, Georgia Sturdivant.
