Jurors Award $30 million in Medical Malpractice Case

Monday jurors found Westside Regional Medical Center 85 percent responsible and Dr. Mark Grenitz 15 percent responsible in the medical malpractice case of Jacob Tomlian. Due to the delay in performing a Caesarean section during Tomlian’s birth, Jacob was left with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, a spastic gait and deafness in one ear. Jurors decided this will cost the hospital and the doctor $30 million. During labor, heart-monitoring equipment showed fetal distress during the 1991 birth. “Although Dora Tomlian eventually underwent an "urgent C-section," it was not soon enough,” said attorney Crane Johnstone.
