Homicide by Negligence in Allergy Death

Morris Howard, 58, was a patient at Elgin Mental Health Center who needed one-on-one care because of severe physical and mental disabilities resulting from a gunshot wound many years ago. Despite several warning about a fish allergy, including notes in his chart and special colored cards on his lunch tray indicating the specific allergy, two staff members fed him fish on June 20th. The two workers called paramedics and gave Howard a dose of anti-allergy medication. After going into anaphylactic shock Howard was pronounced dead in Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Authorities said the death has been ruled a homicide by negligence.
