Hit-and-Run Suspect Surrenders

A woman involved in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday night (04NOV06) in Oakland, California, turned herself in to police on Tuesday (07NOV06). According to Officer Steve Creel, Jackie Lynn Perez was interviewed by two police officers and subsequently arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The accident happened on eastbound Interstate 580 when a Toyota Echo driven by Perez crashed into a pickup truck containing a family of five, causing it to drive off the road and roll over several times. Truck driver 28-year-old Jobalina Garcia was taken to John Muir Medical Center with critical injuries, and his two young sons, also critically injured, were taken to the Children's Hospital in Oakland. Also in the truck were Juan Magallon and a five-month-old baby who sustained "lesser injuries." According to witnesses, Perez drove away after crashing into the pickup, and was reported heading south on Highway 99 north of Modesto later that night after the CHP issued a statewide alert for the Toyota.
