Geneva Airboat Captain Faces Negligence Charges

Bruce Fryer, who operates Central Florida Airboat Tours, is facing negligence charges by the U.S. Coast Guard. While Fryer was carrying seven tourists on his boat he tried to cross a small portion of land, which caused passenger Vincent Rutowski to go overboard and be struck by the 3,000-pound vessel. He later died of massive head injuries. Fryer’s airboat had not been inspected by the Coast Guard and was therefore operating illegally, according to the release. The Coast Guard is taking steps to determine if his merchant mariner’s license should be revoked or suspended.
