Former Cheerleader May Settle Case of Negligence

Richard L. Wiesmann, a former University of Montana cheerleader, filed a lawsuit in 2005 against UM and Mismo Gymnastics Inc. claiming negligence after an accident during a 2002 practice caused him to be temporarily paralyzed. Wiesmann is seeking compensation for physical, mental and emotional injuries and out-of-pocket expenses like medical bills that were associated with the accident. According to court documents, as a UM cheerleader Wiesemann was required to attend the practice at Mismo’s gym in which he attempted a “combination round-off/back flip” for the first time. He fell on his head and injured his neck, which caused the temporary paralysis. An out-of-court settlement is pending in the case.
