FDA Needs Tougher Stance on Unapproved Drugs

Did you know that 2% of the prescription drugs now on the market never went through the Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval process, according to a research done by cable network CNN? The FDA says it is taking steps to crack down on this problem but it cannot be certain of how many unapproved medications are on the market, it could be a very long time until we as consumers are protected from this threat. The FDA recently managed to get unapproved versions of the antihistamine carbinoxamine off the market. That drug had been blamed for the deaths of dozens of children. Some consumers have called on the FDA to release a list of unapproved medications so we have a way to determine if a drug has been approved. So far the FDA has refused to do this.
