Driver Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter

A man pleaded no contest in court to vehicular manslaughter and two other felonies after crashing his car into a bicyclist and killing him. Chevelle Bailey, 41, was high on methamphetamine and alcohol when his car hit and killed 31-year-old John Peckham at 60 to 90 miles per hour in the Palo Alto hills, California. According to court records, Bailey did not stop driving after he hit Peckham, and ended up crashing his car down an embankment. Bailey already has a robbery conviction and a DUI on his record - and now he is facing a prison sentence of up to 28 years. Supervising Deputy District Attorney Jay Boyarsky says, "The evidence against Mr. Bailey is strong. The best thing Mr. Bailey could have done is accept responsibility as soon as possible."
