Defective Drugs

In a recent survey of medical specialists, which was conducted by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), a US free-market advocacy group, there is an exceptionally negative view of the FDA. The survey of medical specialists noted that 60% of those specialists view the FDA as hindering their use of new therapies. Further, 58% stated that the FDA hindered their treatment of their patients on more than one occasion. The FDA has been under attack for allegedly approving defective drugs and therapies. However, according to the survey, the length of time FDA is taking to get through the approval process is where the real problem lies. It seems there are risks either way. Perhaps patients should be given the option of choosing whatever course of treatment they would like, whether it be a treatment that is still in the testing stages or already FDA approved. That may be the only way to make a wider variety of treatments available to the general public.
