Day Care Operator Arrested For Baby Death

A day-care operator is being held in Orange County Jail after a 4-month-old boy died in her care. Lorrie Mae Stoddard, 54, was arrested on Thursday (19OCT06) for the death of Noah Samuel Gusto. According to Cypress Police Sgt. Jim Olson, Stoddard had called 911 on Tuesday afternoon (17OCT06) and told them that Noah Samuel Gusto had stopped breathing. The baby was later pronounced dead in Los Alamitos Medical Center, where an autopsy showed that Gusto had severe hemorrhaging of the brain and ruptured optic nerves. Olson stated that the injuries suffered by Gusto were consistent with "shaken-baby syndrome". Stoddard will be formally charged today (23OCT06) in Westminster.
