Conditional Sentence for Fatal ATV Accident

Sheldon Paul Day has been given an 18-month conditional sentence for criminal negligence causing death. Day was driving an ATV and had his best friend, William Thomas Confiant as a passenger. Day got into an accident, which caused Confiant to be thrown off from the ATV and die. Crown prosecutor Shane Russell told court Tuesday that Day was impaired and the ATV he was driving had faulty brakes. The machine rolled backwards down a steep hill and hit an embankment. Factors in the negligence also included stormy weather on the night of the incident and a sticker on the ATV saying it was a one-person vehicle. Day was sentenced to nine months of round-the-clock house arrest and nine months of an 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew.
