Child Run Over By Parade Truck

An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured last Saturday (28OCT06) when an 18-wheeler ran her over in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The accident happened when the girl tried to pick up some candy near the wheel of the truck, which was a float for the Homecoming parade. The girl fell over and the 18-wheeler rolled over her, breaking both her femurs. She was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and then transferred to UAB Children's Hospital in Birmingham. According to Tuscaloosa Police Chief Ken Swindle, her injuries were serious. He says, "We have not had a child that I'm aware of be hit in the past. We've had children run out in front of floats. It's a dangerous situation where we've asked that candy not be thrown from the floats. "We don't know which float the candy came from so, no, we don't look at any criminal charges to be filed,"
