Cerebral Palsy Victim Awarded $15.8 Million

A Michigan jury has awarded $15.8 million in a medical malpractice suit for a child born with cerebral palsy. The doctors who managed the birth were accused of gross negligence when they failed to perform a cesarean section after the fetus experienced difficulty in labor, resulting in the baby's life-long disability. According to estimations, between two and seven babies per 1000 suffer a birth injury or serious condition as a result of prolonged labor, prematurity, cephalopelvic disproportion, dystocia, or abnormal presentation of the fetus during delivery.
