California Man Injured in Highway Crash

A man was severely injured on Tuesday (19DEC06) when his car exploded after being hit from behind in Gilroy, California. Gin L. Dong was driving southbound on U.S. 101 when his Honda Accord was hit from behind by a Toyota 4Runner driven by Amanda Rosever, 18. According to the California Highway Patrol, Rosever crashed into Dong's car after taking her eyes off the road for a moment to look into her purse. When she looked up again, the Accord was in front of her. Rosever insists she had no time to brake. The Accord burst into flames as a result, causing Dong to suffer third degree burns over 70 percent of his body. He remains in critical condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. If Dong dies, Rosever will face manslaughter charges.
