Black Box Warning on Avandia

GlaxoSmithKline has been asked by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to toughen warnings to consumers that its diabetes drug raises the risk of heart failure. A current warning on the drug’s label states that Avandia raises the risk of heart failure in some patients. However, the FDA wants a more prominent “black box” warning. The FDA have also requested a similar warning on the drug Actos, which is a similar type drug.
