Auto and Bicycle Collisions Cause Reminders of Safety
Reminders of “smart†bike riding came to the people of Modesto after the death of a 56-year-old who collided with a truck and after another accident left a teenage bike rider in critical condition. Delbert Herrera was riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the street when he cut in front of a big rig and was fatally struck. Witnesses say the driver of the truck came to a complete stop and looked both directions as he left a cannery. A 14-year-old girl was riding her bike with no helmet in the wrong direction and as she made a wide left turn she collided head-on with a Dodge van. From not wearing a helmet she has suffered severe head injuries which could have been prevented.
