700 Cruise Passengers Sick During Trans-Atlantic Voyage

Over 700 passengers on a cruise ship have fallen ill with what is believed to be a norovirus. According to cruise officials, the passengers and cruise members aboard the Carnival Cruise Lines’ Liberty became sick with flu-like symptoms. The cruise ship, believed to be one of the largest in the world, is carrying 2,8000 passengers. It left Rome, Italy earlier this month (03NOV06) and was due to reach Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday (10NOV06). David Forney, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta says, “Within 24 hours of sailing, they had a lot of people sick. It has tapered off considerably over the past couple days."
