$21 Million Awarded to Foster Care Victim

A seven-year-old girl has been awarded $21 million in negligence compensation for injuries she sustained as a three-month-old in foster care in New Jersey. The foster couple who were responsible for the child at the time and the state have been held responsible for the severe injuries to the girl, which include brain damage. Same sex couple Rodney Marchione and Richard Allen have been ordered to pay 70 percent of the $21 million compensation while state workers Maria Jiminez and Kathy Edmunds are responsible for 30%. The foster couple have been found guilty of intentional tort. Lawyer Jeffrey Strauss says, "(The child) is living but can hardly function. She is blind and cannot walk or talk and has restricted movements. She is never going to be independent."
