$11 Million Awarded in Wrongful Death Case

The Metra commuter train from Joliet to Chicago was traveling about 70 mph while changing tracks when the derailment accident happened. College student Jane Cuthbert and research technician Allison Walsh were killed, and more than 80 others were injured in the accident. The derailment was blamed on human error, and the train’s engineer was fired in 2006. The Metra commuter rail agency will pay $11 million to settle the two wrongful death lawsuits of Jane Cuthbert and Allison Walsh.
